Literary Quotes

So I thought I would share some of my favourite bookish quotes.

For example “it takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to our enemies, but just as much to stand up to our friends” Albus Dumbledore.

“Of course, it’s happening inside your head, Harry, but why on Earth should that mean that is not real”. Another Albus Dumbledore quote.

“If a book is well written, I always find it too short” Jane Austen.

Another good Jane Austen quote is “The person, be it gentleman or lady, who has not pleasure in a good novel, must be intolerably stupid”.

“Never trust anyone who has not brought a book with them” – Lemony Snicket.

Snicket is a good one to quote from. For example, “Anyone who thinks the pen is mightier than the sword has not been stabbed with both”.

I know there are plenty of other quotes out there, but that’s all I can think of at the minute.

Do you have any favourite quotes? Let me know in the comments.

The Peculiar Case of Lord Finsbury’s Diamonds by Stephanie Laurens

Inspector Stokes of Scotland Yard calls in aristocratic sleuth Barnaby Adair to assist in a most puzzling case.. Penelope Adair, wife and partner of amateur sleuth Barnaby Adair, is so hugely pregnant she cannot even waddle. When Barnaby is summoned to assist Inspector Stokes of Scotland Yard in investigating the violent murder of a gentleman at a house party, Penelope, frustrated that she cannot participate, insists on a detailed report- and promptly arranges a private dinner party so that she and Griselda, Stokes’s wife, can be duly informed of their husbands’ discoveries. But what Barnaby and Stokes uncover only leads to more questions. The murdered gentleman has been thrown out of the house party days before, so why was he returning? And how and why did he come to have the fabulous Finsbury necklace in his pocket, much to Lord Finsbury’s consternation. Most peculiarly, wat has the murderer left the necklace, worth a stupendous fortune, on the body? The conundrums compound as our intrepid investigators attempt to make sense of this most baffling case. Meanwhile, the threat of scandal grows ever more tangible for those attending the house party- and the stakes are highest for Lord Finsbury’s daughter and the gentleman who has spent the last decade in darkest Africa striving to resurrect his family fortune so he can aspire to her hand.

I love Stephanie Laurens. She is an amazing writer. This is an excellent book. I love the mystery in this story. It’s kinda cool that they are able to solve the murder without any forensics. You will love Laurens, who is a master at what she does. She creates a world that you can’t help but get sucked into. I loved reading this book. I would definitely recommend it and I hope you enjoy it.

The Secrets of Sir Richard by Julia Quinn

Sir Richard Kenworthy has less than a month to find a bride. He knows he can’t be too picky, but when he sees Iris Smythe-Smith behind her cello at her family’s infamous musicale, he thinks he might have struck gold. She’s the type of girl you don’t notice until the second- or third- look, but there’s something about her, something simmering under the surface, and he knows she’s the one. Iris Smythe-Smith is used to being underestimated. With her pale hair and quiet, sly wit she tends to blend into the background, and she likes it that way. So when Richard Kenworthy demands an introduction, she is suspicious. He flirts, he charms every impression of a man falling in love, but she can’t believe it’s all true. When his proposal of marriage turns into a comprising position that forces the issue, she can’t help thinking that he’s hiding something… even as her heart tells her to say yes.

I love Julia Quinn. She is an amazing writer and I love her stories. This is no exception. It is a well written, thought out book. I have to admit, I did think Richard was a bit of a dick in parts. Apart from that, I loved it and it is one that is worth reading. Quinn is one of my favourite authors. I would definitely recommend it and I hope you enjoy it.

Autographed Books

So I recently realized that I have a few autographed books. So I decided that it would be a good idea to keep them together.

What do you think? There are one or two more but they are part of a series and I want to see if I can a different copy of it so that I can put the signed copy with these.

But it’s a little nice to have a place for them. It’s nice to have a few signed books. Sometimes, with the right copy, they can be worth something.

Having said that, I don’t think my copies will be worth anything. Either way, it’s nice to have something signed by a favourite author.

Personally, I’d love a signed copy of Harry Potter. But that’s probably not going to happen. Ah well.

But what about you, do you have any signed copies of books? And if you do where do you put them? Let me know in the comments.

I think Debbie Macomber is an amazing writer. She deals with a lot of different topics with tact and elegance. This is no different. After a Vampire Tracker Marks her with a crescent moon on her forehead, 16 year old Zoey Redbird enters the House of Night and learns that she is no average fledging. She has been Marked as special by the vampyre Goddess Nyx and has affinities for all five elements: Air, Fire Water, Earth and Spirit. But she is not the only fledgling at the House of Night with special powers. When she discovers that the leader of the Dark Daughters, the school’s most elite club, is misusing her Goddess given gifts, Zoey must look within herself for the courage to embrace her destiny- with a little from her new vampyre friends.

Slight spoiler in this one. This is a really good book. It is well written, with an interesting storyline. I loved the story. I also loved the characters. I have to admit I did find it a bit corny in bits. To be honest, there are several books in this series and I’ve only read about 4 or 5 of these. People kept dying and coming back. It got annoying after a while. I would recommend it, even to see what’s it like.
