How to Marry a Marquess by Julia Quinn

She’s trying to follow the rules.. When Elizabeth Hotchkiss stumbles upon a copy of How to Marry a Marquis in her employer’s library, she’s convinced someone is playing a cruel joke. With three younger siblings to support, she knows she has to marry for money, but who might have guessed how desperate she’s become? … But he’s making his own .. James Sidwell, the Marquis of Riverdale, has been summoned to rescue his aunt from a blackmailer, a task that requires him to pose as the new estate manger, and his primary suspect is his aunt’s companion, Elizabeth. Intrigued by the alluring young woman with the curious little rulebook, he gallantly offers to help her find a husband.. by practicing her wiles in him. But when practice becomes all too perfect, James decides that there is only one rule worth following – that Elizabeth marry her Marquis.

So this is the second book of a two parter. I really enjoyed it. Julia Quinn is an amazing writer and one of my favourites. She creates characters and stories that you can’t help but fall in love with. I loved every second of it. Quinn really knows how to suck you in. Elizabeth and James are amazing characters and their story is a really good one. One of the things that I liked about it was that the bad guy wasn’t who you thought it was. I would definitely recommend it and I hope you enjoy it.

To Catch an Heiress by Julia Quinn

When Caroline Trent is kidnapped by Blake Ravenscroft, she doesn’t even try to elude this dangerously handsome agent of the crown. After all, she’s been running from unwanted marriage proposals. Yes, Blake believes she’s a notorious spy named Carlotta De Leon, but for six weeks until her 21st birthday, when she’ll gain control of her own fortune, hiding out in the titillating company of a mysterious captor is awfully convenient – and maybe just a little romantic, too. Blake Ravenscroft’s Mission is to bring “Carlotta” to justice, not to fall in love. His heart has been hardened by years of intrigue, but this little temptress proves oddly disarming and throughly kissable. And suddenly the unthinkable becomes possible- that this mismatched couple might be destined for love.

I loved this book. Julia Quinn is one of my favourite authors. (Her books never come out quick enough for me) I really enjoyed it. Blake and Caroline are amazing characters. There is so much to this book, romance, intrigue, amazing characters and a brilliant storyline. Perfect for sitting in front of the fire or on a holiday. I would definitely recommend it and I hope you enjoy it.

Secrets of the Sirens by Julia Golding

When eleven year old Connie is sent to live with her eccentric aunt by the sea, she’s not expecting anything great – not to make friends with Col, the coolest guy in town, and certainly not to discover that mythical creatures still exist, that an ancient society has protected them for centuries, and that a dark and treacherous force is lurking in their midst. Most of all, she doesn’t expect to learn that she has the rarest of talents, greater even than her secret ability to communicate with animals. With Col’s help, she could achieve unimaginable power- and face the terrifying choices that come with it.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It’s such an interesting story. I love the fact that mythical creatures are still around and that there are people who are able to communicate with them. It’s an enjoyable book that is well written and has amazing characters. I loved every second of it. I would definitely recommend it and I hope you enjoy it.

The Book Of Life by Deborah Harkness

After traveling through time in Shadow of Night, historian and witch Diana Bishop and vampire and scientist Matthew de Clairmont return to the present to face new crises and old enemies. At Matthew’s ancestral home at Sept Tours, they reunite with their families- with one significant exception. But the real threat to their future has yet to be revealed, and when it is, the search for Ashmole 782 and it’s missing pages takes on even more urgency. So this is the final book in the All Souls Trilogy and I loved it. It really wraps up everything nicely. I have to admit, I did think that there were parts of the book, especially towards the end, that Deborah Harkness was rambling a bit. Like I thought that she wasn’t going to finish it in three books. Having said that, I really enjoyed reading it. And it was worth the rambling. I love the mix of fantasy and science. In this series, that mix really works. I would definitely recommend it and I hope you enjoy it. Links to book:Amazon Book Depository Easons Waterstones

Libraries

So recently I joined the library.

I am a little glad I did.

Turns out, what you do is order a book from any library and it will let you know when it comes to your local library.

You can also go into any library, borrow a book and give back to a different library. So for example, my local library is in Celbridge. So if I wanted I could go to Leixlip and borrow a book, and I can bring it back to Celbridge.

Isn’t that cool?

To be honest, I haven’t been part of a non college library in years. So this will be interesting. So far I’ve gotten a book on knitting and an ICA book, as well as some fiction books. The ICA and knitting book are not books I would normally buy, but I want to have a chance to look at them.

So far, I’m enjoying the library. I will be getting more books. What about you guys? Do you use your local library?

Paper Towns by John Green

Who is the real Margo? Quentin Jacobsen has spent a lifetime living the magnificently adventurous Margo Roth Spiegelman from afar. So when she cracks open a window and climbs into his life- dressed like a ninja and summoning him fit an ingenious campaign of revenge-he follows. After their all nighter ends, and a new day breaks, Q arrives at school to discover that Margo, always an enigma, has now become a mystery. But Q soon learns that there are clues- and they’re for him. Urged down a disconnected path, the closer he gets, the less Q sees the girl he thought he knew.

John Green is one of those authors where he is an excellent writer, but all the characters are the same. Don’t get me wrong, he totally worth reading. And I thought this was a really good book. I did kinda think the ending left you feeling unsatisfied. I guess I have mixed feelings about this book. I do think it’s worth reading though. I would definitely recommend it and I hope you enjoy it.

The Letter by Maria Duffy

Ellie Duggan is getting married in seven weeks. But just before she sets off for a fun filled New York hen party weekend, she finds a letter addressed to her sister, Caroline. Dated only weeks before Caroline died in a tragic accident, it contains some startling information which forces Ellie to face some truths about herself, Caroline’s death- and even her forthcoming marriage. Ellie has spent three years since Caroline’s death running from the truth. But as the weekend in New York comes to a close, she comes to a drastic decision. As Ellie finally lays old ghosts to rest, she realizes that the truth can set you free. But will she be willing to take the risk?

So my only complaint with this book is that Maria Duffy keeps doing things like when someone is in a thought, and the person they are talking to is still talking, Duffy will write and x keeper talking. Or y was still talking. It’s a little annoying. Apart from that, it is an enjoyable book and one that is worth reading. I would definitely recommend it and I hope you enjoy it.

In his battle to save Merry and win her heart, one thing becomes clear: All is fair in love and war.

This is an amazing book. I love Eloisa James, she is a great author. She creates such good characters and you get really sucked into the story. I loved reading Merry and Trent’s story. It is interesting, thoughtful and funny. It is also really written. I just loved everything about it. I would definitely recommend it and I hope enjoy it.

That Summer by Sarah Dessen

For fifteen year old Haven this is the summer where everything changes. Dad is remarrying. Her sister Ashley is planning a wedding of her own. They’re both moving on, but Haven is lost in memories of a time when life was happy and her family was whole. And then Ashley’s ex, the charming and funny Sumner Lee, arrives in town. He reminds Haven of carefree days gone by, and she can’t help but wonder – has fate brought this person back from her last to change her future?

So I have mixed feelings about this book. On the one hand, it’s by Sarah Dessen and it’s a good book and totally reading. On the other, I kinda Haven was a little boring. I’m sorry to say that and it’s a shame but there you have it. Having said that I was compelled to keep reading it. Dessen is an amazing writer and she produces thoughtful characters who are (normally) interesting. This, I believe, was her first book and I think she does get better. I would start with this one so that you can see how far she has come. I would definitely recommend it and I hope you enjoy it.

Stranger in My Arms by Lisa Kleypas

“Lady Hawksworth, your husband is not dead…” With those words, Lara’s life is turned upside down. Hunter, Earl of Hawksworth, had been lost at sea. Or so she’d been told. Their unhappy marriage- with its cold caresses and passionless kisses- was over. But now a powerful, virile man stood before her, telling secrets only a husband could know, and vowing she would once be his wife in every way. While Lara couldn’t deny that this man with the smoldering dark eyes resembled Hunter, he was attentive and loving in ways he never was before. Soon she desperately wanted to believe, with every beat of her heart, that this stranger was truly her husband. But had this rake reformed – or was Lara being seduced by a cunning stranger?

I love this book. I love the whole story, it’s so interesting. Lisa Kleypas is a fantastic writer and her characters are amazing. Kleypas really sucks you into the story. One of the things that I like about it is that this book keeps you guessing about whether or not Lara will stay with the new Hunter. Lara’s attitude can be a little annoying but apart from that it is an interesting book and one that is worth reading. I would definitely recommend it and I hope you enjoy it.
