The Many Coloured Land by Julian May

When a one way time tunnel to Earth’s distant past, specifically six million B. C., was discovered by folks on the Galactic Milieu, every misfit for light years around hurried to pass through it. Each sought his own brand of happiness. But none could have guessed what awaited them. Not even in a million years….

This is an amazing book. Julian May is an amazing writer. I love reading her work. She creates a world that is well written and the characters are amazing. You can’t help but get sucked into her world. It is such an interesting read. I loved it. I would definitely recommend it and I hope you enjoy it.

Angel Rouge by Mary Jo Putney

A master spy with the face of an angel, Lord Robert Andreville, returns to his ancestral home in Yorkshire after a dozen harrowing years spying against Napoleon. But nothing soothes his ravaged spirit until a determined young beauty sweeps into his life. Half Mohawk and all American, Maxima Collins is a wary stranger in a strange land, but she will let nothing halt her journey to London to learn the truth about her fathers sudden death- not even a self appointed guardian who is lazy charm and dangerous skill. Together they travel across England, evading pursuers and circling each other in a dance of desire, where truth is elusive and passion is sure. Then dark secrets shatter their idyll and only love has the power to heal the past…

This is such a good book. I love Maxima and Robin. They are such brilliant characters and their story is an amazing one. It is engaging, well written and a very interesting book. I loved everything about it. I would definitely recommend it and I hope you enjoy it.

The Least Likely Bride by Jane Feather

One moment Lady Olivia Granville is strolling along a path, her nose stuck in a tome of Greek philosophy; the next she is plunging down a rocky cliff. When she wakes up, she is naked and unwittingly trapped on a pirate ship. Her captor, though, is no ordinary pirate. Wickedly handsome, disturbingly mysterious, the grey eyed master of the Wind Dancer is both a physician and an artist, and admits to making his living from the sea. Most disconcerting of all, when he turns his eyes on her, he sees not the stammering, hopelessly bookish young girl Olivia has always been, but a passionate, beautiful woman who can, if she chooses, embark on an adventure and the love of a lifetime.

So I think of the three books that I’ve read by Jane Feather, this is my favorite. I don’t know what it is but I enjoyed it. It is well written, the characters are amazing and it’s an all round good book. It is one of those books that you can read on a cold winters night or if you are on holiday some where. I would definitely recommend it and I hope you enjoy it.

The Crimson Crown by Cinda Williams Chima

A thousand years ago, two young lovers were betrayed- Alger Waterlow to his death, and Hanalea, Queen of the Fells, to a life without love. Now, once again, the Queendom of the Fells seems likely to shatter apart. For young queen Raisa ana’Marianna, maintaining peace even within her own castle walls is nearly impossible; tension between wizards and Clan has reached a fevered pitch. With surrounding kingdoms seeking to prey on the Fells’ inner turmoil, Raisa’s best hopes is to unite her people against a common enemy. But that enemy might be the person she’s falling in love. Through a complicated web of lies and unholy alliances, former street lord Han Alister has become a member of the Wizard Council of the Fells. Navigating the cut throat world of blue blood politics has never been more dangerous, and Han seems to inspire hostility among Clan and wizards alike. His only ally is the queen, and despite the perils involved, Han finds it impossible to ignore his feelings for Raisa. Before long, Han finds a secret believed to lost to history, a discovery powerful enough to unite the people of the Fells. But will the secret die with him before he can use it?

This is the final book in the Seven Realms. It is such a good series. My only problem with this book is the ending. I feel like Cinda Williams Chima brought me along on this amazing adventure and then she rushed the ending. It’s almost like in her head she had to 3-400 pages and once she got that, that was it. It’s so annoying, coz it’s such a good book. I was so disappointed as Chima is an amazing writer and she creates such an amazing world but then the ending happens. I do think it’s worth reading, despite the ending. She rounds everything up nicely. Which is always good. I did enjoy it immensely. I would definitely recommend and I hope you enjoy it.

The Grey Wolf Throne by Cinda Williams Chima

Han Alister thought he had already lost everyone he loved. But when he finds his friend Rebecca Morley bear death in the Spring Mountains, Han knows that nothing matters more than saving her. The costs of his efforts are steep, but nothing can prepare him for what he soon discovers: the beautiful, mysterious girl he knew as Rebecca is none other than Raisa ana’Marianna, heir to the Queendom of the Fells. Han is hurt and betrayed. He knows he has no future with a blue blood. And, as far as he’s concerned, the princess’s family as good as killed his own mother and sister. But if Han is to fulfill his end of the bargain, he must do everything in his power to see Raisa crowned queen. Meanwhile, some people will stop at nothing to prevent Raisa from ascending. With each attempt on her life, she wonders how long will it be before her enemies succeed. Her heart tells her that the thief turned wizard Han Alister can be trusted. She wants to believe it- he’s saved her life more than once. But with danger coming at her from every direction, Raisa can only rely on her wits and her iron hard will to survive – and even that might not be enough.

This is another great book in the Seven Realms series. I love Cinda Williams China’s style of writing, it’s so easy to read. I love the intrigue within this book. I also love Han and Raisa, they are well thought out characters and their story is an amazing one. One of the things that I love about this series is that it gets better the more you read it. It is definitely worth reading. I would definitely recommend it and I hope you enjoy it.

That Time of Year

So it’s that time of year again. Christmas. And there are lots of things you can get for the book lover in your life.

Some books I think would be good would be:

Storm Front by Jim Butcher

The Chilbury Ladies Choir by Jennifer Ryan

The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss

Daring to Drive by Manal Al Sharif

A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness

Now remember that books are just one thing that you can get. There are plenty of other things that you get. One thing would be cup gift sets so that they can drink coffee/tea/hot chocolate with the book that they are reading.

Another would be vouchers such as the Eason Gift Card or the National Book Token. Each have their uses and you can buy books with them.

Another good idea would be to search Etsy. They have lots of ideas for book lovers. For example, last year my sister got me a stamp with my name on it so that I can stamp my books with.

I know it’s upside down but still it’s such a cool gift that would a lot of book lovers would love.

I hope these help. If you have any suggestions let us know in the comments.

The Exiled Queen by Cinda Williams Chima

Haunted by the loss of his mother and sister, Hans Alister journeys south to begin his schooling at Mystwerk House in Odom’s Ford. But leaving the Fells doesn’t mean that danger isn’t far behind. Hans is hunted every step of the way by the Bayers, a powerful wizarding family set on reclaiming the amulet Han stole from them. And Mystwerk House has dangers of its own. There, Hans meets Crow, a mysterious wizard, who agrees to tutor Hans in the darker parts of sorcery- but the bargain they make may be one that Hans may regret. Meanwhile, Princess Raisa ana’Marianna runs from a forced marriage in the Fells, accompanied by her friend Amon and his triple of cadets. Now, the safest place for Raisa is Wein House, the military academy at Odin’s Ford. If Raisa can pass as a regular student, Wein House will offer both sanctuary and the education Raisa needs to succeed as the next Gray Wolf queen. Everything changes when Raisa and Hans’s paths cross.

This is another great book in the Seven Relams series. It is addictive, engaging and a really well written book. Speaking of the writing, it is so fluid and Cinda Williams Chima really knows how to get you sucked into the story. Hans and Raisa are amazing characters and I loved reading their story. My only complaint is that the beginning can be a bit slow, but once you get into it you fly through it. I would definitely recommend it and I hope you enjoy it.

The Demon King by Cinda Williams Chima

Times are hard in the mountain city of Fellsmarch. Reformed thief Han Alister will do almost anything to eke out a living for his family. The only thing of value he has is something he can’t sell – the thick silver cuffs he’s worn since birth. They’re clearly magicked- as he grows, they grow, and he’s never been able to get them off. One day, Han and his clan friend dancer, Dancer, confront three young wizards setting fire to the sacred mountain of Hanalea. Han takes an amulet from Micah Bayer, son of the High Wizard, to keep him from using it against them. Soon Han learns that the amulet has a evil history – it once belonged to the Demon King, the wizard who nearly destroyed the world a millennium ago. With a magical piece that powerful at stake, Han knows that the Bayers will stop at nothing to get it back. Meanwhile, Raisa ana’Marianna, princess heir of the Fells, has her own battles to fight. She’s just returned to court after three years of freedom in the mountains – riding, hunting and working the famous clan markets. Raisa wants to be more than an orament in a glittering cage. She aspires to be like Hanalea- the legendary warrior queen who killed the Demon King and saved the world. But her mother has other plans for her .. the Seven Realms tremble when the lives of Hans and Raisa collide, fanning the flames of the smoldering war between clans and wizards.

This is such a good book. It is interesting, engaging and a brilliantly well written. I loved reading it. One of the things that I loved reading about was the intertwing story between Hans and Raisa and between The Demon King and Hanalea. It makes for a gripping read and is one of my favorites . I would definitely recommend it and I hope you enjoy it.

To Tempt a Bride by Edith Layton

From the moment she first saw tall, dashing Eric Ford, Camille’s heart was lost. In her most cherished fantasy she is standing by his side, exchanging sacred wedding vows with her beloved. But Eric seems content to be no more than her unofficial protector, watching over the younger sister of his dear friend- and, despite her every attempt to open his eyes, it appears Camille’s dream of wedded bliss might never come true. Eric knows a spirited and passionate beauty like Camille deserves much better than him, an ex military man who has no patience for the games of the ton. Still, he aches each time a potential suitor approaches her, or when he sees her dancing in another man’s arms. Eric knows he will never be complete until Camille is his. With each lingering glance and caressing touch he must tempt the lady to be his bride. But when danger and betrayal threaten, will it destroy a secret love … or bind two hearts for all eternity?

This is such a good story. Edith Layton is an amazing writer and I loved diving into her world. Camille and Eric are amazing characters. It is fast paced, easy to read and perfect if you want to read something between your more serious reads. I loved it. I would definitely recommend it and I hope you enjoy it.

The Sweet Far Thing by Libba Bray

It has been a year of change since Gemma Doyle arrived at the foreboding Spence Academy. Her mother murdered, her father a laudanum addict, Gemma has relied on an unsuspected strength and has discovered an ability to travel to an enchanted world called the realms, where dark magic runs wild. Despite certain peril, Gemma has bound the magic to herself and forged unlikely new alliances. Now, as Gemma approaches her London debut, the time has come to test these bounds. The Order- the mysterious group her mother was once part of – is grappling for control of the realms, as is the Rakshana. Spence’s burned East Wing is being rebuilt, but why now? Gemma and her friends see Pippa, but she is not the same. And their friendship faces its greatest faces its gravest trail as Gemma must decide once and for all what role she is meant for.

This series gets better the more you read it. As it is the last book, it is a brilliant conclusion to the series. I love reading more about Gemma and her friends. My only complaint is that the first half of the book is a bit dull but the second half of it more than makes up for it. I also thought that it was a bit weird that Felicity and Pippa were involved. It seemed very sudden. Apart from these I found it to be a very enjoyable book and one that is worth reading. I would definitely recommend it and I hope you enjoy it.
